The Horizon Line, Why We Paint the Unseen

The Horizon Line, Why We Paint the Unseen

For twenty-five years, my world was defined by the horizon. As a Naval Aviator, the horizon wasn't just a view; it was a tactical boundary, a constant measure of stability, and a silent witness to the immense power of the Indian Ocean. In the cockpit, precision was survival. Every maneuver was calculated, every instrument reading was an absolute.

But when I traded the flight deck for the studio, I discovered a different kind of truth.

Beyond the Visible

I am often asked why a man of military discipline chose Abstract Expressionism—a genre defined by its lack of rigid form. The answer is simple: some experiences cannot be captured in a literal photograph or a realistic sketch. The sheer energy of a fleet maneuver, the crushing weight of a monsoon sky, or the spiritual stillness of a high-altitude peak—these are felt, not just seen.

Abstract art allows us to paint the energy of the experience rather than just the object. It is the visual language of the intangible.

Our Mission: A New Movement in India

This blog, Perspectives, is more than a personal journal. It is a platform with two core missions:

  1. Propagating Abstraction: We want to champion the language of abstract expressionism within the Indian art scene. We want to move beyond the decorative and explore art as a profound investment in human emotion and national identity.

  2. The Collective: No artist creates in a vacuum. I am honored to stand alongside a circle of renowned collaborators and friends—artists who are pushing boundaries across the subcontinent. Here, we will feature their stories, their processes, and their visions.

Whether you are a seasoned collector or someone who has just felt the "pull" of a canvas for the first time, I invite you to look beyond the surface with us. Art, like the sea, is deeper than it looks.

Welcome to the first of many perspectives.
